Uses of some Adjectives

3.1 SOME, ANY

These are used for questioning, some use where answer in expecting in “yes” especially for request or offer. Any use when answer is expecting in “no”.

3.2 Each, every

Both have same meaning but each used when we talk about limited numbers and every used for unlimited numbers.

  • Each student of this class is prepared for exam.
  • Every Muslim should offer Namaz.

3.3 Many, Much

Many is used for number is much if used for quantity.

  • He has sold many tickets.
  • Many students were absent.
  • Much money was spending on firework.
  • How much water in the jug?

3.4 Few, A few, the few

Few have negative meanings.

A few has positive meanings.

The few used for not many, but also used for all in all.

  • Few people reached at age of 100 in current century.
  • A few words spoken in sympathy will encourage her.
  • The few books Wasif Ali Wasif has written are very useful.

3.5 Little, a little, the little

Little has negative meanings. A little has positive meanings The little used for not many, but also used for all in all.

3.6 elder, older

Elder and eldest are used for the people of same family, while older and oldest are used for people out of family and as well things.

  • I know his elder brother.
  • He is older than his friend.
  • This building is very old.
  • Farooq is oldest man in the office.

3.7 Nearest, next

Nearest used of distance and next is used to show position.

Where is nearest Masjid.

In next session we are starting B.A classes.

3.8 latest, last

Latest represents time and last represents position.

  • What is latest news?
  • Last year we went to Murree.
